Yummy Green Juice To Beat The Winter Cold

With winter coming in the next 8 weeks, the in laws have been juicing up a storm to get the kids ready for flu and cough season. It always happens without fail with the season changes, someone falls sick and infects everyone in the house. It becomes a gross and messy family affair (hang on, every family affair ends up gross and messy!). With three children under the age of three and 5 adults living in the house it is no wonder that we are always catching each other’s bugs.

Below is a juice that I usually make to beat the nasties away. Of course it’s not fool proof but it is a great accompaniment to beating the winter blues along with living an active life and clean eating. It is my own recipe to boost our immune system up and have a yummy green treat at the same time.

MsAudreyC’s Green Juice for kiddies- Servings 2-4 kiddies cups

Green Apples x 4

Cucumber x 2

Celery x 4 Stalks

Half a lemon

Ginger x 2  slices the size of a NZ 20 cent coin (a bout 2-3cm)

Turmeric x half a teaspoon <–has plenty of health benefits associated for more info click here

*Peel what you want, I usually only peel the lemon and the seeds and remove the apple core and seeds.

**Add everything in a juicer. Add water if you wish and Voila! Yummy Fresh Juice ❤

***For the little kiddies I add a bit of honey on the top to hide the taste of ginger and the turmeric.

MsAudreyC’s Green Juice for the BIG kiddies- Servings 2

Green Apples x 4

Lemon x 1

Cucumber x 2

Celery x 4 Stalks

Ginger x slices the size of a NZ 20 cent coin (a bout 2-3cm). I ussually cut em thick for the big kids (a.k.a grown ups) cause they can take a little more goodness in their diet :p

Turmeric x 1 teaspoon

*Peel what you want, I usually only peel the lemon and the seeds and remove the apple core and seeds.

**Add everything in a juicer add water if required. This will end up looking like a very fluffy and raw juice. Yumz.

MsAudreyC’s Green Smoothie- Servings 2

Frozen Banana x 4

Avocado x 1  You can omit it when it’s not in season but when it is in season do try it as it gives an extra creamy texture to the smoothie.

Green Apples x 4

Ginger4  slices the size of a NZ 20 cent coin (a bout 2-3cm)

Cucumber x 2

Turmeric x 1 teaspoon

I replace yogurt, sorbet and ice cream with frozen banana. Just peel the bananas and place them in a plastic bag and into the freezer they go. You can double bag it to avoid the other freezer flavours mixing into it.

You don’t have to freeze the banana but I do like my smoothies cold without having to add ice.

Some people like to remove the skin but I like my smoothies and juices pulpy (is that even a word?)  so I leave the skin on. Add all the ingredients together, blitz till smooth and voila. Super Healthy Green Smoothie.

If you don’t like the recipe you can just spice it up :p
